Donation by Madonna
On Monday Madonna announced the fundraiser. She expressed that all the donations would go to a non-profit organization “Raising Malawi”. The campaign began on July 30 and will run through August 31. It has a target of $60,000. She further added that the fundraising event will serve as a gift for her birthday. It would also connect her global family with beautiful Malawi and the children who need help out there.
Raising Malawi was co-founded by the pop star with American screenwriter Michael Berg in 2006. The aim of the NGO was to support Micheal Bergs work at the Home of Hope orphanage in Malawi. According to the International Monetary Fund, Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world. Moreover, nearly 50 per cent of the nations’ population lives below the poverty line.
Eric van Miltenburg, senior vice president of business operations at Ripple made a statement saying that the charity was important to them. He further added that Ripple is honoured to be a part of Raising Malawi’s amazing work with some of the world’s most underserved children. The company is expressing gratitude to their investors ‘Sound Ventures’ for introducing them to support this noble cause. Ripple will match all donations made through the drive.
According to a Facebook donations page, the campaign has already raised more than $26,000 within two days of its launch from nearly 540 people. It amounts to nearly 50% of the target set for the campaign.
