Complicated case of Finnish Millionaire
A thorough investigation was done by Thailand’s Crime Suppression Division (CSD). According to CSD deputy commander Pol Col Chakrit Sawasdee, the case seems to be very complicated as there is a use of cryptocurrency. It allows funds to be tracked through the blockchain but is semi-anonymous by design. In one of his statements, Chakrit told that the department had to carefully examine documents and trace the money trail. It took a couple of months to get approval for the arrest warrants.
Action against accused
After a rigorous effort of six months, the agency managed to figure out that there is a group of nine people. The thugs transformed the funds into local currency and invested in land. The local police managed to arrest one among the suspects in the plot. He is a 27-year-old soap actor Jiratpisit ‘Boom’ Jaravijit. The police arrested him well as several of his siblings while he was filming in Bangkok.
CSD claims that the department has frozen a total of 51 bank accounts and have also seized several plots of land which are believed to have been acquired with the stolen money. With regards to the money laundering charge, the team is also verifying the amount of money with commercial banks only in the accounts of the siblings and their family and relatives. They will freeze the money and will bring it back to the victims.
Moreover, it has to be noted that several local celebrities have been caught up in cryptocurrency scams in the past as well. There has been a number of cases of several Bollywood actors in India.
